MMU Adopts New Rate Structure for Water and Sewer Services
At the December 7, 2009 Board of Public Works regular meeting a new utility rate structure was adopted for water and sewer services provided by Macon Municipal Utilities. The new rate structure will be effective with January 1, 2010 billing statements. The adjustments to the rates are a direct result of costs incurred to provide raw water treatment and wastewater collection services for customers. Regarding raw water treatment, rates were adjusted due to chemical costs and overhead costs to provide this service. Sewer base fees were increased as well due to costs relating to environmental compliance with wastewater collection and treatment. The overall impact of these increases will be around $1.83 per month for residential customers using 5,000 gallons of water/sewer each month. Commercial and industrial customers inside the city limits using 50,000 gallons of water/sewer per month will realize about a $2.61 increase in charges per month as a result of the adjustments. Water for resale customers also received rate adjustments per allowances in their contracts. A complete rate sheet can be obtained here or at 106 W. Bourke Street, Macon, MO 63552.
